Please welcome Linwood Jewellery to Sweet as a Candy!

Please tell us a little about yourself and your shop.
I am Susie and I work with my sister in law, Bev, to design and hand make jewellery. We both have slightly different styles but they work together and give our range more depth. I tend to create pieces that have a story behind them. For example, my latest necklace called, Homage to the Sun God, is a piece based on the ancient belief in the worship of the Sun and my thoughts behind wearing the necklace, is that it will bring sunshine into the life of the wearer and also radiate light out from them to others.
How did you get started making your amazing unique jewelry?
My background is very mixed. I was originally a scientist (chemist), then a teacher and most recently, worked in software development. However, I’ve always loved art, and jewellery making allows me to work with metals: to understand the properties of the metal and combine that with art.
Where do you gather inspiration from?
My inspiration comes from my interests in ancient cultures. I am starting a range on mythology (the Sun God being one of the pieces) my next piece is called a Totem necklace and I am also working on a necklace called ‘The Evil Eye’, based on the belief in warding off bad spirits with the power of the mind (in this case channelled through the necklace). I intend to do a range inspired by the cave Art of Lascaux in France too. However, Bev keeps us down to earth. I write about some of my work on my blog: Lynwood Jewelry.
Favorite blogs/shops/links.
My favourite online places are the forums of the artisan networks that I am a member of, for example the Creative Handmade Artists and Indie Junction very supportive people and good fun too!
There are so many great blogs in the handmade community it is hard to pick only a few but, for example, The Daily Suze, UK Handmade and Lovely Clusters and of course, your own Sweet as a Candy.
Oh and if you want my favourite shops to buy from – the list is too long but I am finding that more and more I’m buying handmade – I especially like to be able to commission knitwear.
Please give Lynwood Jewellery a warm welcome by checking out her beautiful shops!
