The perfect shabby house

Federica Piccinini

I just love anything “old” like the owner of this gorgeous Melbourne home! It’s great to recycle furniture and other stuffs when you can.

The shabby cottage look is absolutely one of my faves decorating styles, it’s no wonder because this appealing style is easy to live with. Simple, fresh and warm.

If you’ve always wanted this shabby style there are a few tips that might help you. First, you need vintage furniture and fabrics! Shopping at flea markets can yield great finds. You can paint all your furniture using a range of whites, cream and grey as well.

Crackle is the perfect tecnique if you want your things to look shabby.

The perfect shabby look should be bright and light, so you have to use light colors. I know that for many people the total white is not very practical…but you can use yellows, light blues and greens, creams as well.

Lyn Gardner, the owner of this shabby house, is also the owner of a great antique store in Melbourn called Empire Vintage. It’s always great to turn a hobby into your business. It would be one of my dreams…my own store…with furniture, home accessories, shoes, clothes, jewellery…it would be a fantastic store, I know!

Great pictures and style. I love this look as well. The trouble of having a store and a home and a love for furniture is that you want to keep everything. My Shabby Old house is a result of that. It holds all of the pretties that I couldn't part with from my shop. It isn't great business sense however. lol

I love all the furniture, especially the sofa and chairs with the mixed-up cushions! I like the clean crisp look in all the rooms. Sometimes shabby can look a bit musty, not this one!
