Today I really would like to introduce you all the amazing Lelia Scarfiotti and show you some of her gorgeous photos. I am a very lucky girl because this talented and special woman will be the photographer of my wedding next May 14, 2011.

Oggi voglio presentare a tutte voi la fantastica Lelia Scarfiotti e mostrarvi alcune delle sue splendide fotografie. Sono una ragazza davvero fortunata perchè il prossimo 14 Maggio 2011, questa bravissima e speciale donna immortalerà i momenti più belli del mio matrimonio.
Sono sicura che molte di voi conoscono già Lelia ed i suoi splendidi scatti!

I first heard about Lelia, some months ago, thanks to my wedding planner Laura. We were looking for a photographer for my wedding and when Laura showed me Lelia’s works I immediately fell in love with her photos.

Then, I had the chance to meet Lelia, to talk with her and to shoot with her.

She’s amazing.

She’s a talented photographer but also a special woman, with a strong personality.

La prima volta che ho sentito il nome di Lelia è stato qualche mese fa grazie alla mia wedding planner Laura. Stavamo cercando un fotografo per il giorno del mio matrimonio ed appena Laura mi ha mostrato i lavori di Lelia me ne sono subito innamorata.

Successivamente, ho avuto l’occasione di conoscerla personalmente, parlare con lei e scattare foto insieme.

E’ una persona incredibile.

Una fotografa di grande talento ma anche una ragazza davvero speciale, con una forte personalità.

Lelia, thank you so much for beeing here today to talk about you and your passion for photography.Tell us, how did you get into photography as a full-time career?

Hello everyone…it’s wonderful to be here….such a great honor!

My passion for photography started when I was a little girl…when I saw my dad working in his studio with the optical bench, or when I was waiting in the dark of the darkroom for an image, just like magic. I loved to stay in my own world, I wrote poems and stories, I drew all the characters of my imagination.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t do the school of art as I’d like to, and after five years of scientific highschool I was convinced that the right choise was to be more concrete.

I put in a corner of my heart, my dreams, the real ones, and I’ve been abroad for several years on a street that wasn’t mine.

After England, Switzerland, Egypt and France, I returned to live in Tuscany (the only place that I’ve always felt mine) and I started working as a head marketing for BMW.

In the meantime, I also picked up my camera again, rediscovering a little more about myself.

One day, I went to a friend’s wedding and I brought my old Nikkomart with a black and white roll film…just to take two shots, I said to myself…well, that day changed my life.

Watching the copule through the lens, I was really excited and I rediscovered that little corner of my heart where I’ve put all my dreams.

Lelia, grazie mille per essere qui oggi a parlarci un po’ di te e della tua grande passione per la fotografia. Raccontaci come hai trasformato questa tua passione in un vero e proprio lavoro a tempo pieno?

Buongiorno a tutti…che meraviglia essere qui…e che onore!

La mia passione per la fotografia è nata da piccolina…quando vedevo mio papà che lavorava nel suo studio col banco ottico, o quando aspettavo nel buio della camera oscura che uscisse fuori un’immagine dalla carta, come per magia. Adoravo starmene nel mio mondo, scrivevo poesie e racconti e disegnavo tutti i personaggi della mia fantasia.

Purtroppo non ho potuto fare il liceo artistico come avrei voluto e dopo cinque anni di liceo scientifico ero convinta che la scelta giusta fosse quella di essere più concreta.

Ho messo in un angolino del mio cuore i miei sogni, quelli veri e sono stata diversi anni all’estero per percorrere una strada che non era la mia.

Dopo Inghilterra, Svizzera, Egitto e Francia, sono ritornata a vivere in Toscana (l’unico posto che mi sono sempre sentita mio dovvero) ed ho cominciato a lavorare come responsabile Marketing nella BMW.

Nel frattempo, ho anche ripreso in mano la macchina fotografica, riscoprendo un pò me stessa. Un giorno sono andata ad un matrimonio di un’amica ed ho portato la mia vecchia Nikkormat, con un rullino in bianco e nero…tanto per fare due scatti, mi sono detta…beh quel giorno mi ha cambiato la vita.

Guardando gli sposi attraverso l’obbiettivo, mi sono emozionata davvero ed ho riscoperto quel cantuccio del mio cuore dove avevo riposto i miei sogni.

How would you describe your style?
I try to find in my photos a source of joy….usually this comes from little things…from a particular light, from a color…
Basically my style is dreamy…with my images I try to go back to my little, wonderful, and fantastic world…

Come descriveresti il tuo stile?
Cerco di trovare nelle mie foto una fonte di gioia…normalmente viene dalla piccole cose…da una luce particolare, da un colore…
Fondamentalmente direi che il mio stile è sognatore…provo a tornare attraverso le immagini al mio piccolo, meraviglioso, mondo fantastico…

Who or what inspires you?
I’m inspired by the sunset colours, by the sound of the sea, by my dog, by the smell of coffee, the smiles, the color of lavender…
Another great source of inspiration are books…I love to read…it’s like a journey…there’s the thrill of discovery, you have the chance to meet people and wonderful places…and then…melancholy for the return home…

Da chi o cosa trai ispirazione?

Sono ispirata dai colori del tramonto, dal rumore del mare, dal mio cane, dal profumo del caffè, dai sorrisi, dal colore della lavanda…direi da tutte le piccole cose che rendono grande la vita…
Altra mia grande fonte di ispirazione sono i libri…adoro leggere…è come un viaggio…c’è l’emozione della scoperta, hai la possibilità di conoscere personaggi e posti meravigliosi…e poi…la malinconia per il rientro a casa…

There are some photographers that you admire more than others? Who they are?

There are so many photographer that I admire…
I would say that for the weddings my faves are Jose Villa, Elisabeth Messina and Ben Chrisman.
In general, the photographer that more touch my heart are Colbert, Salgado, Woodman, Penn…and of course my dad.

Ci sono dei fotografi che ammiri in modo particolare? Chi sono?
I fotografi che ammiro sono davvero tanti….
direi che nel campo dei matrimoni i miei preferiti sono sicuramente Jose Villa, Elisabeth Messina e Ben Chrisman.
In campo generale i fotografi che più mi toccano il cuore sono per primo Colbert, poi Salgado, Woodman, Penn…e ovviamente mio papà!

You were recently included in the Little Black Book SMP, tell us your first thoughts and emotions.
To be included in the LBB of Style me Pretty it has been a big goal.
I hope to live up to!

Di recente sei stata inclusa nel Little Black Book di SMP, raccontaci i tuoi primi pensieri ed emozioni.
Essere inclusa nel LBB di Style me Pretty è stato un grandissimo traguardo.
Spero solo di essere all’altezza!
